Artist In Residence (AIR)

The Simeon ten Holt Foundation offers an artist residency space in Bergen, Noord-Holland, The Netherlands. Simeon ten Holt (1923-2012) is one of the most famous Dutch composers. Most of his works have been composed at this address, nowadays called ‘Atelier Simeon ten Holt’, a one-person’s house and working place in the picturesque artist village of Bergen in beautiful surroundings of sea, forests and dunes.

Artist-in-Residence place - Available from April until November 

The Atelier is on offer to be used as an Artist-in-Residence place for individual composers, musicians, writers or other professional artists who’d like to focus on their projects. It offers a working- and living space, with an own garden, and entrance. The modernized house has kept the authentic atmosphere of Simeon ten Holt’s working space. His renovated Steinway grand piano can be used. The Atelier has a private bathroom with shower and toilet, and a modern kitchen. Internet is included.

The Atelier can be reserved for at least one week up to four weeks in a row. The fee is € 220 per week, including bed-, bath and kitchen linen. Excluding meals and grand piano tuning à € 145. Artists have to cover their own travel and living costs, as well as costs linked to insurance (travel, medical etc.). The residencies are personal and do not include any other accompanying person.

The city centre of Bergen can be reached by foot in 10 minutes. There is a possibility for renting a bicycle.

Payment: Due to payment your booking is definite. 
Cancellation policy: 60 days before the start of the stay, all charges will be refunded. 30 days before the start of the stay, 50% will be refunded. Cancellations after 15 days days will not be refunded.

Application guidelines and criteria

Artists can apply by filling out the application form, which includes a short project proposal (what is the project you are working on during your stay), and hyperlinks to recent work. A written report has to be presented to the Simeon ten Holt Stichting within one month after your residency.
